Congdon School of Supply Chain, Business Analytics, and Information Systems
The Congdon School, previously the Department of Business Analytics, Information Systems, and Supply Chain Management, offers courses in business analytics, information systems, and supply chain management. The mix is unique, combining quantitative methods and analytical approaches to solving problems in all areas of a business utilizing current technology.
Choose a concentration in Business Analytics (BAN) if you are interested in one of the most popular jobs of the 21st century. This concentration provides students with the opportunity to focus on using analytics skills across disciplines to improve business decision making and to fill a growing void in the workplace.
Choose a concentration in Information Systems (IS) if you enjoy technology and working with people. Our IS students are problem solvers and assist firms to be more competitive via the use of technology.
Choose a concentration in Supply Chain Management (SCM) if you get excited about understanding how products and services are created, and ultimately delivered to the consumers. Our SCM students help firms to be more productive, efficient and achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction. Also available: online MBA in Supply Chain Management, online EMBA in Supply Chain Management.
Major in Information Technology (IT) if you enjoy the more 'technical' aspects of computers particularly in the areas of security, networks, and software development. IT majors understand the complexity of systems and ensure they are secure and meeting user needs.
The department offers two advanced degrees:
The fully online Master of Science in Business Analytics (MS BA) program prepares you for in-demand career opportunities by teaching you the advanced analysis skills needed to inform advanced business strategies, recommendations and decisions. A “4+1” program for Business Analytics undergraduate students is also available that allows excellent students to begin courses in the MS BA program while still an undergraduate. Also available: online MBA in Business Analytics, online EMBA in Business Analytics.
Our unique Master of Science in Computer Science and Information Systems will enable you to grow your technology skills and prepare you for a career in information technology management. You may pursue this degree either on a full or part time basis.
Congdon School faculty are young and progressive, with more than 50 percent of our faculty receiving their Ph.D.'s in the past 10 years. BAN, MIS and SCM concentrations require innovative faculty who stay current in their fields.
Students are encouraged to join two different professional student clubs: the Information Systems Association (ISA) and / or the Student Analytics and Supply Chain Association.
Finally, both our corporate advisory boards are among the most active at UNCW. The advisory boards work to increase the quality of our graduates and provide full-time placement as well as internships while at UNCW.

National Center of Academic Excellent - Cyber Defense EducationUNCW has been named a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education, a designation that will enable students to compete for federal and private cyber security jobs. The label means that UNCW’s Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with a minor in cyber security meets the academic standards set by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency. Ulku Clark, professor of management information systems, was instrumental in shepherding the university’s application through the lengthy process. “Cyber security is a very important field because our systems are so exposed,” she said. “On almost a daily basis, we hear that some system has been compromised or that data have been stolen.” |
