About the ISOM Department

The department offers courses in information systems, operations and production management, statistics and management science. The mix is unique, combining quantitative methods and analytical approaches to solving problems in all areas of a business utilizing current technology.

Major in Management Information Systems (MIS) if you enjoy technology and working with people. Our MIS majors are problem solvers and assist firms to be more competitive via the use of technology.

Major in Operations Management (OPS) if you get excited about understanding how products and services are created and ultimately delivered to the consumer. Our OPS majors help firms to be more productive, efficient and achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction.

Major in Information Technology (CIT) if you enjoy the more 'technical' aspects of computers particularly in the the areas of security, networks, and software development. CIT majors understand the complexity of systems and insure they are secure and meeting user needs.

If you are interested in an advanced degree, our unique Master of Science in Computer Science and Information Systems will enable you to grow your technology skills and prepare you for a career in information technology management. You may pursue this degree either on a full or part time basis.

ISOM faculty are young and progressive, with more than 50 percent of our faculty receiving their Ph.D.'s in the past 10 years. MIS and OPS concentrations require innovative faculty who stay current in their fields.

Students are encouraged to join two different professional student clubs: the Information Systems Association (ISA) and / or the Student Operations Management Association (SOMA)

Finally, both our corporate advisory boards are among the most active at UNCW. The advisory boards work to increase the quality of our graduates and provide full-time placement as well as internships while at UNCW.
