Dr. Thom Porter In addition to serving as director of the Swain Center, Dr. Porter also oversees the CSB Graduate Programs and International Programs offices. Dr. Porter received his PhD from Indiana University in 1999, his MBA from Indiana Univeristy in 1990, and his BA from Purdue University in 1985. His publications have appeared in a variety of journals including: the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, Business Horizons and R&D Management.

Dr. William Hall Dr. Hall has been a Professor of Economics at CSB since 1974. Prior to joining the faculty, Dr.Hall was a Research Economist and Editor of Publications in the Economic Development Center at Western Carolina University. He has also served as Editor for the Carolina Coast Business Review and as Director for the Office of Economic Development and Forecasting here in CSB. He is currently Senior Economist in the Swain Center for Business and Economic Services.

Organizational Program Director Ashley Wallace

Ashley Wallace brings a background in educational compliance, business development and strategic planning.  Ashley started his professional career in 1996 with PPD, Inc. In 1999, he joined Miller-Motte College where he served as the Associate Campus Director.  In this position he oversaw all day-to-day operations including supervising over 100 employees to service over 1,000 students. In 2008, Ashley joined the College of Wilmington as their President.  In addition to overseeing all day-to-day operations, Ashley was responsible for setting the strategic short and long-term initiatives and implementing the required processes to achieve these initiatives. Under his guidance, the school became licensed by the North Carolina Board of Community Colleges and the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy, the school moved into a new facility with high visibility, and the school hosted a successful re-accreditation visit. He holds the Masters in Public Policy Studies from Duke University, the Masters in Education from the University of Nebraska, and the Masters in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He is a doctoral student in the PhD in International Development at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Jennifer Garvey

Jennifer started working at UNCW in March 2007. Jennifer handles the logistics and marketing for events sponsored by the Swain Center.

After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill, Jennifer worked with a monthly business publication outside of Charlotte, NC. More recently, Jennifer served in the Sales and Catering Department at The Westin Charlotte.
